The Martin Lab is actively recruiting creative and motivated scientists at all levels! As a new lab, we're committed to building an interdisciplinary team that fosters a vibrant, open, and collaborative culture of research excellence. If you have research interests in cancer therapies, immunology, and genetic engineering, we encourage you to consider joining our team.

How to Apply

PhD Students

All PhD student applications are submitted through Tufts Biomedical Engineering (BME). Tufts BME has a unique direct recruitment process, meaning you'll be matched with our lab upon acceptance, not afterward.

Therefore, when you apply, be sure to select Dr. Martin as your preferred mentor so your application is flagged for her review. Additionally, please mention which Current Project on our Research page interests you in your application. In general, grad students working on translational projects must be willing to work with mice. After initial reviews, Dr. Martin will offer video interviews to top candidates, typically in December/January. Selected students are then invited for an on-campus visit in early Spring.

Master's Students

Master's students typically join our lab for a shorter period compared to PhD students. Therefore, it's crucial for applicants to be able to balance demanding coursework with lab commitments. Successful Master's students will commit to one year of research in the lab.

If you are a current Tufts MS student interested in completing your thesis work with us, and one of our Current Projects piques your interest, please send an email to Dr. Martin. In your email, detail your interests in the lab, what you hope to learn, and any skills you have, and include your resume.

Undergraduate Students

We're dedicated to providing meaningful research experiences for undergraduates. Our goal is to equip you with valuable skills that will prepare you for your future career. We welcome students with or without prior experience – enthusiasm for our research topics is all that's required!

Undergraduate research assistant positions are generally unpaid, but you can apply for summer research funding through the Summer Scholars Program. We ask for a commitment of at least two semesters, with most students working 8-10 hours per week.

We accept applications year-round, with interviews typically conducted in the spring for summer or fall start dates. If you're interested in starting in the spring semester, please apply no later than mid-fall.

To apply, please prepare a concise, lab-specific email detailing your interests in our research, what you hope to learn, and any relevant skills you possess. Send this email along with your resume to Dr. Martin.
